    3.7"?!

This makes the new iPhone similar to an entry-level Android.

Apple needs to bump this to 4" or 4.1".

Maybe what we really need is a display that can rotate 90 and still look good. Then I could stick a pair of 9:16's side by side.

Hey now, I think you are onto something....That sounds like a new feature that MAC would offer, similar to how the iPod/iPad flip sideways....Excellent insight!!!

Wouldn't be surprised if this isn't a new marketing scheme by Apple to get all the tech sites talking.....

Check out the release notes here:

    http://www.vmware.com/products/beta/fusion/releasenotes_fusion.html

For the squeamish who don't realize they're squeamish (the fearless/masochistic can ignore this):
Note that there's a reason this is a private beta. It's rough still. There are bugs that will freeze your Mac. That requires a hard power-off, and even though we have journaled HFS+, there's still the chance of corrupting the image.

In other words, don't use this unless you really know what you're getting into. Wait for the public beta unless you're experienced with rough software.

Otherwise, it looks like it will put up a good fight against Parallels. That's very useful, as I'd like them to add some of the features VMware has had for years (access to raw HD partitions, for example).

They seemed pretty pissed off at her. I highly doubt they were beating her up like that simply because she's transgender. If they end up getting charged with a hate crime I'll lose a little more faith in humanity.

I understand from the news coverage that they attacked her after she used the woman's restroom.

Her transgender nature, and their reaction to that was absolutely central to this crime. If that isn't a hate crime, I don't know what is.

But most reasonable people should realize that being drunk in the ghetto as a transgendered guy isn't the brightest idea.

Again, you're simply being offensive by referring to her as a "transgendered guy", never mind the fact that the whole mentality of victim blaming works on EXACTLY those principles.

Women who are raped often would not have been raped had they dressed differently or avoided a certain area, is it their fault now? Victim blaming is victim blaming, she had the right to enter that establishment and use the loos she did, she was attacked for it. The only people in the wrong were the attackers and arguably the staff for not intervening

Are you seriously suggesting that this woman should just stay at home rather than risk going outside because her very nature could inflame people to attack her?

Are you implying that black underprivileged people can't handle transsexuality, but white middle class people can? This **** happens everywhere, it even happened in san francisco about a month ago.

Your whole mentality is downright offensive.

What's the next logical step in a computer interface? I used to say "Computer, show me the money" to open Quicken back in pre-OS X days. More of a gimmick than anything else, but imagine if the Finder and maybe even other apps became "speakable."

    Me: "Check mail"

Computer: "You have nine new messages. Would you like me to read them?"

    Me: "No, thanks."

(clicks on an email, reads message)

    Me: "Reply to this message"

    Computer: "Type or speak?

    Me: "Type"

    type-type-type

Me: "Computer, I'd like to add a photo of the kids to this email."

Computer: "iphoto has 6,813 pictures of the kids, which one would you like?"

Me: "One from the birthday party last week."

Computer: (a strip from iphoto appears) "Here are 23 from last week. I've highlighted the one where your wife fixed the red eye. Is that the one you want?"

Me: "Yes, that will be fine."

Computer adds the picture to stationery in the email, other pictures go away.

    Me: "Send the email"

Me: "...and order me a pizza."

This kind of thing can't be too far off. A 75 mhz Performa could do it in a rudimentary way. Imagine what a modern Mac may be able to do. "Speakeasy" has a nice ring to it.

I want mine to use the old-school Mac voice that Radiohead used in "Fitter Happier."

cloud based this and cloud based that, what about the traffic that comes with that? , i pay a lot for mobile internet and i`m not willing to pay a **** load more just so i can use my ipod, why wold i pay my cell phone network every time i want to listen to a song i already pay`d for.
As far as i`m concern cloud based stuff shod be introduced when cell phone network providers are willing to give unlimited traffic plans at a decent cost, until that time it`s pure nonsense.

 Whatever. I'm not NDA police. Pirate all you want. Just don't be pissed when people don't post the changelog RIGHTAWAYS.

Who says I pirated anything? All I was trying to say, is that it really gets tiring to see this back and forth every time any preview comes out. We all know that people have to agree to not disclose things. We all also know that most people ignore that requirement. It doesn't do any good to remind anyone of non-disclosure agreements. People are going to talk about it anyway. Just saying...

    Beaten in terms what what?

The entire Android platform only generates 1 billion dollars per year in revenue for Google.

On the flip side, the iOS platform generates 1.4 billion dollars per quarter through the iTunes store for Apple.

Google hasn't found a way to significantly capitalize on Androids market share and that is a major loss. Hell, Google could take over the other 30% of the market held by RIM/ect. and the yearly Android revenue would still be below Apples quarterly revenue for the iOS platform.

I dont know if Google want Android to be a pure moneyspinner. They're already better off with smartphones accessable to more people which in turn means more people online doing searches, using their services and data mining. OEMs like HTC, samsung, lg, zte and chipset makers will be the real breadwinners of Android if they can push successful products based on the OS.

I'm with you 150%. I love pages in that it just lets me create:fast. I don't like that it makes assumptions (or more, I don't like the assumtions that it makes) as to what I want to do. Your example of the dropped in graphic is dead-on. I dropped in the graphic, so probably I want the graphic. I may want to do more with the graphic, but I may not. iWeb does the same thing, and the pre-1.1 template-only-no-blank-pages thing just made it even worse.

I'd like a tiered level Pages. Maybe an "expert mode" or something that just places things, then has better designed menus and "inspectors" to let me do what I want with it. I find the inspectors to not be well laid out or logical. Why is the text broswer in a completely different dialog than other text attributes, i.e. paragrapgh style, color, etc.? Only Apple knows. If you want to do seperate dialogs, at least give me the option to merge or tab like InDesign.

My only two beefs with Pages is the fact that its toolset is everywhere. You've got some toolbars which only really get you to some space hogging side views and inspectors which take up tons of space just for the one or two things I need to hit. Second, it needs a built in macro language - even if its based off AppleScript (i.e. an AS menu would do then). Having AppleScript support but not accessible within the app itself makes it much harder to deal with.

For example when I put in a graphic, I want to make it 2'' wide, shadow, move with text, wrap to the left with a black border. That's 4-5 panels I have to go through each time I add a pic. I add about 50 or so pics per doc.

So first I'd love if they could organize the menus, toolbars, inspectors, and such a lot better. Its just so haphazard. Next the ability to script repetitive actions.

$1000 worth of a beating he'd get if i were his parent. Luckily for kids, i hate them and would never have one. Ever.

Not just lucky for the kids, lucky for the world.

Please keep your word and NEVER have kids. The last thing this world needs is more people like you.

Sober up, Steve. Less time on Time Machine and more time on solidifying the system.

AppleTalk: Who uses it, and why?

I'm pretty sure that any time you use Personal file sharing, you are using AppleTalk.

EDIT: More info... Personal File Sharing is based off of Apple Filing Protocol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Filing_Protocol). From wikipedia:

AFP versions 3.0 and greater rely exclusively on TCP/IP (port 548 or 427) for establishing communication, supporting AppleTalk only as a service discovery protocol. The AFP 2.x family supports both TCP/IP and AppleTalk for communication and service discovery. Many third-party AFP implementations use AFP 2.x, thereby supporting AppleTalk as a connection method. Still earlier versions rely exclusively on AppleTalk. For this reason, some older literature refers to AFP as "AppleTalk Filing Protocol". Other literature may refer to AFP as "AppleShare," the name of the Mac OS 9 (and earlier) AFP client.

Yeah, to be honest the only reason why I didnt wait is because GPU is so bad in the ULVs.
I rather sacrifice 10% when I have an overkill processor rather than a 30% in the GPU which is not really that good.

I don't know if you know how math works, but there are no discounts for not having a subsidy. You don't factor in the cost of service, that is not relevant. You will pay that regardless of the handset device. My regular iPhone would cost that.

What about someone with multiple accounts? The additional line is $10 a month. You failed to consider all the factors in your math.

For people buying an expensive smartphone getting the 3GS is a good deal. Notice how they sell more of them then any other smartphone besides the iPhone 4, even when Android handset makers give away their product.

The plan is part of the price, getting a 3GS without a plan would net you $449.

And, you don't get an 3GS for $50 for an $10/month additional line. You need to pay for a real plan for that. And the least expensive would still net you more per month than you paid up front for the 3GS.

Not sure why you bring up Android phones? I'm discussing the stupidity of getting a 3GS instead of a 4. Or for that matter a 4 instead of a 5.

    My math is correct.

    I can read Wiki too...

GPL is a license. GNU is a foundation. I corrected as to the licensing terminology..

Per your 12 years, trump - my 25...

By the way - openstep is an evolution of nextstep when next went "open source". it may of been put of the GNU license, but it wasnt there back in 1984 when it all started... Per Saiman, If you know WHY he left MIT in the first place (after all you might want to read the whole wiki), youd know what was going through his mind in the creation of GNU.

Lastly, the Minix kernel came from Posix. So the path Posix->Minix->Linux is valid.
