my fear is the democrats will try to use this a political gain and that is so very wrong both to the military and for this good event.
It turns a great event into worthless BS. It was just luck of the draw that a Dem was in power when this happen and it was only a matter of time. I already am watching some people try to turn it into political gain and it makes me sick.
ALL OF THEM will use this as validation or some type of proof that we need to "stay the course" on our un-winnable wars.
If anything this will have just made our foreign policy situation worse. Get ready for the blowback, because this event definitely pissed off some extremists.

With similar hardware, is Umbutu faster at Folding?
I saw some strange results on the Folding forum.
Any chance to get GPU via wine in MAc OS X?

Apple hasn't done that well over the last year.
It has done great over the last 6 - 7 years but it has been fairly static over the last year or so.
In fact last year in January it was higher than it is right now.
I'd say a +40% increase in stock price from Oct 19, 2005 to Oct 19, 2006 is doing pretty well.

Hi, I'm new :)
Looking at the screenshots my impression is that the Finder is exactly the same as the "old" one. Does this mean that one of the secret feature is a completely new Finder?
(btw.. other screenshots of leopard and in particular XCode and Xray: http://www.macinquirer.net/page0/page0.php)

Only slightly off topic
Without using iTunes & ATV, does anyone know of a product where you can wirelessly stream the media contents of any shared volume to the TV? I would imagine such a product would need a PC/Mac side client as well as a TV attached gizmolike iTunes & ATV. I have both anyway, but I was wondering of different options.
Boxee or any HTPC can be configured to stream movies from a network share.
I am currently using a hacked AppleTV running XBMC to stream movies from a SMB network share on my iMac.

I guarantee you that Sprint, Tmobile, Verizon, and all of AT&T's other competitors are going to jump on this and make sure it is in every television commercial, print ad, radio commercial, and every other form of possible advertisement. "Do you want to have 30% of all of your calls dropped?..."

Hum, you have no idea what Fiber channel is if you seriously claim that. Fiber channel is a networking protocol for storage essentially, Thunderbolt is a host based technology. Call me when Thunderbolt can be switched, redundant, do LUN provisioning and can be extended over a MAN to offer multi-site storage.

That is different then having AppleTalk active on a network connection.

good job everyone, including plutonius and appleguy
now it is basically one spanking new 6-villagers game, starting tonight, with one wolf, one seer and likely one hunter.
with a twist: both the seer and the hunter could also be the wolf.
everyone is suspect.
make it a short night guys, see you all tomorrow

Did you read any of the thread so far?
You can use Vista Home standalone in a virtualization environment legally.
This is purely a misinterpretation of the EULA.
If they didn't understand this on /., they're not going to understand this here, either.

I really hope that it comes tomorrow as my apple store credit card is on fire waiting to be spent. ;) however @dpdesilva on twitter is rumoring that apple will delay imac refresh due to leaks and rumors being overshadowed by Bin Laden's Death. Personally I think it might be B.S. I care more about my Imac than the story of his death.
Sounds like a load of bs to me.. someone is fame hungry.. Why would the news of Osama's death overshadow rumors/leaks of the new iMac.. they are both on totally different scales and subjects. One is world breaking news.. one is not and I don't see how it's going to stop people like me from being worried about other things like my life, daily routine and this iMac that I want ever so desperately..
[Edit] and if it's true that the refresh is going to be delayed because of Osama's death.. THEY'RE SO LETTING HIM WIN!!:mad::mad:

One of my main reasons for getting the MB vs. keeping my iBook was Parallels.
I develop for several platforms, so this was 'made in heaven' if i worked.
Well, after a month of testing and developing I can say that Parallels has been an unqualified success.
Currently I'm running Ubuntu, Solaris 10 (Dtrace, zones and ZFS rules, but that is another debate), and Win2k. Apart from an issue getting the screen resolution right in Sun's Java Desktop, I have had no problems whatsoever.
Since I'm not doing any 3D work, graphics acceleration isn't an issue for me.
It's the best 70-odd dollars I've ever spent.
Oh yeah, to the guy with stability issues..... I have no idea what you've been doing to your machine, but I haven't yet had a kernel panic of any kind (nor a BSOD in Parallels), so I don't recognize the situation at all. And, believe me, when you rape a system the way I do, running a long compile in the background while at the same time converting a video (just to see the stress handling capabilities - I wouldn't do that normally, compiles take too long :)), you get a good feel for the stability of the system. This baby is rock solid.
For the record: MB CD 2GB 120GBHD

Watch, it probably really means it instantly voids the MS support part of the Vista purchase for that license.
Would be just peachy that Apple offers zero support for running Vista on a Mac, and MS does the same for those doing it via virtualization.
Probably forsee a support headache coming down the path. :p
That's what Paul Thurrott thought, too. (See his response above.)
In any event, Apple wouldn't support Windows running via any method on a Mac.
However, in the Boot Camp scenario, any support available from Microsoft with any version of Vista would still be available.

Don't you have to hit download twice to actually buy it?
Oh well... It's obvious it was a mistake. I'm glad they're getting a refund. Let's just hope that Apple doesn't screw the developer over on it (ie. take out their 30% cut and then expect the developer to foot the $1000 refund) like they did when they pulled GV Mobile from the App Store.
