yeah i know. i read that they would add them, but if they haven't by now, i don't think they will

Strange it hasn't been done yet. It would help as we struggle to take on ClubLexus as they have raised their production very close to our level.

On another note, it looks like the Gulftown 6 core that will be next in the Mac Pro are screaming. It will be hard to resist getting a 12 core machine (24 with hyperthreading) unless the price is ridiculous. Should be good for 60k PPD ;)

Looks ok, I don't mind it. I really don't care that much about looks more than functionality. I want something more like Outlook. On an exchange server Outlook does wonders. Email, calender, and contacts all unified in one program that offers great communication with the universal address book on the server.

Watch the news on this right now ... they are talking about how huge Bin Laden is in Al-Queda ... he goes back to the beginning of it.

if anything Ayman al-Zawahiri is a distant #2 leader

Looks like Navy Seals played a big role in getting the job done ... cheers to them.

God knows that if the news is reporting something, its the truth.

Seriously? Why would news channels that helped in the march for war play this up at all?

Do you trust Wikipedia? :) In fact the line above this one on Wikipedia says:

Everything I've read that is sourced to Intel says an add-on card won't be possible. It's my guess that the integration for Thunderbolt needs to be deeper than an PCI Express card, especially with its capability to carry video/data. It may be that Intel does not want people confused by data-only Thunderbolt ports. OTOH, I'm not a Thunderbolt engineer, so I may be completely mistaken. :D

Technical issues aside - odds are that Apple would rather sell you a new Mac Pro with Thunderbolt onboard.

I am not a Thunderbolt engineer either...in fact, it is interesting (and odd) that Intel is only now announcing the availability of a TB developer kit.

Do you trust the Wiki? While a grain of salt is advisable, I merely reference the item. It does seem to me, however, that the line you reference is talking about a non-GPU PCIe card. I had posted an earlier comment referencing the Intel position that there could not be a TB card (because TB must directly access both the graphics processor and the PCIe lanes). This means that there will not be a simple TB add-on card like adding a FW800/USB 2 card in the past.

The line I referenced seems to indicate that it would be possible for a TB controller to be on a graphics card (and thereby gaining direct access to the GPU) and have direct access to the PCIe lane(s) in which the "TB enabled Graphics Card" is mounted with true (video and data) TB port(s) on the outside.

Would Apple prefer to sell you a new machine? Of course they would. Apple have a well established, if nasty, pattern of abandoning the purchasers of earlier hardware to their fate (not co-incidentally, it is one of the arguments against the use of the Mac platform frequently aired by the PC community).

I believe I mentioned third party developers. If not I do so now. It would be an interesting project for a third party manufacturer to integrate a TB controller and associated ports onto a graphics card that is otherwise the same as a supported graphics card so that it would be recognized by the OS.

Whether Apple have tied access to the TB ports in some bizarre manner which would make this impossible only some clever engineers would know after looking at the new OS & hardware implementation. Apple probably could not care less, but it is a market opportunity for somebody nonetheless.

The reason for the earlier reference to the data only possibility is the reality that external storage for Mac Pros is severely hampered by the lack of a fast interface unless one has made the transition to fibre.

A good RAID array could challenge the current TB bandwidth, but I doubt anyone would complain too loudly considering the lack of alternatives and the degree of improvement over the status quo.

    Cheers

    The challenge

    DESIGN A PHONE!

    Conditions

    1. Must be black.
    2. Must be metal with no sharp edges (rounded edges) and be as simplistic as possible. Camera.
    3. Touchscreen (no slide out keyboard)
    4. Ergonomically friendly and look nice.
    5. User interface to be nice and on par with present day interfaces (no 1990s looking icons).
    6. Docking interface.

They are all going to look similar.

MS seemed to be able to get by without appropriating the look of Apple's interface.

    Of course they are.
This kind of thing has to be paid for somehow. Common options:
    1. Pay subscription
    2. Ad supported
    3. Loss-leader to help sell something profitable.

This rumor is suggesting that Apple is going with a combination of 1 and 3.

    BSD is not GNU.

No, but Bash is. I meant the GNU/Berkeley as a hybrid BSD userland with GNU parts thrown in. I know the difference quite clearly thank you.

As always, the iPod is Apple's real cash cow.

Too bad for those of us who wish they would divert a little more of their attention to their computer line.

Yeah. Gawd knows Apple hasn't done a thing with it's Mac line-up this year.

    Interesting.

I can't confirm this because I already had Gestures enabled once and with every new update, it hasn't gone away. But if they are now enabled without needing XCode, then I guess enjoy because I love using these Gestures (I rarely use the Home button anymore).

@#*(&$(# and I bought Xcode to get those features a few weeks ago. But they are sweet!!!! I use em all the time.

-aggie- is so called seer. I trust that. Chrmjenkins seems clean. I know I'm not. So it's him left. lbro as well, but I don't get that vibe from him.

What vibe exactly am I not sending out? In all of the games I've played, I have never had a role other than plain ordinary villager. This game is no different.

I agree that -aggie- and Chrmjenkins are most likely not wolves. Not sure about you or lbro. But you were awfully quick to single me out, which smacks of some hidden furriness on your part. So my vote is for you, jav6454.

Someone at iPhone Dev Forums said that iOS Simulator in Lion will gain ability to download/run apps.

That pretty much means that another "groundbreaking" feature in Lion is ability to run iOS apps (besides iOS Simulator).

No desire whatsoever for an iPad, actually, I'd never use it :p (Plus it's expensive, my Kindle was only $139; $39 after I sold my original Kindle!)

Does anyone know if they are available from today in the retail stores?

The new MacBook Pros are available from the online Apple Store. The new MacBook Pros will ship next week.

That was in the story

I'm 99% certain iPhone 5 is announced at WWDC. Doesn't make sense to go further out, especially with Android bringing up the rear in a big hurry.

By bringing up the rear you mean leading the pack now in sells and innovation, hardware*(No one can argue that all of the android phones in the iPhone 4's category all have better specs.) all android needs is a little polishing on the UI. This Year the iPhone will be playing catch up. iOS also has to dish out the features that the customers want.

    1. File system
    2. More personalization
    3. Widgets
    4. Better notifications
    5. Wifi tethering
    6. the most important of them all it must have a picture of me on it.

I'm not gonna buy music from Amazon again though, I downloaded 1 song for my Dad once from there. Because iTunes didn't have it, and Amazon emailed me for weeks with spam.

Bunch of lying crap. My upgrade date hasn't "moved" as this lying reader claims happened to him, it is still 6/19/2011. Every year my upgrade date coincides very closely with the release of the new iPhone. AT&T isn't going to just push my date back (a date I earn by paying a lot every month) because there is no new iPhone in June. So this guy is confusing two separate issues in order to get his BS story out. Maybe the rep said that, maybe he didn't, but he has absolutely no info from Apple, because Apple would never ever ever ever make such a statement to AT&T.

To the poster above me, Apple has been know to downgrade some specs for an "upgrade" and in this case, Intel is forcing there hand. If they want to move onto the i5 chips, they can't used nVidia's GPU which is rated better then Intel built in solution. And since there aren't any other integrated solutions and the Air doesn't have room for a dedicated card, it will likely end up like the 13'' MBP, losing some graphic performance.

Users will need to decided if GPU power or CPU power is more important after this new upgrade, alone with price, as the current MBA will likely drop.

As a current MPA owner, I'm glad Apple is finally moving away from the Core 2 Duo's they have been on for so long. Heck I could upgrade my Mac Mini which was my first Mac from 2006 and I'd have a Core 2 Duo, not quite as new of a C2D and the GPU would be greatly lacking, but I can still upgrade if I want.

But once Apple jumps to Sandy Bridge, even if for a generation of Macs we lose graphic performance, we'll make it up with Ivy Bridge and our CPUs will be more powerful. Plus PC specs won't seem so far ahead.

Although I was shopping for a PC for a department at the University I work for and finding a GPU in a PC that worked with their rendering software was rather hard. PC makers just don't care about GPUs as much as they used to.
